Today was Colt's very first day of Playschool. Bryan and I were SO worried about him going because he hates to be left alone with people he doesn't know. When I say "hates," it's really an understatement. Playschool is held at the same place we go to church and we've recently had to stop going to church because he won't stay in the nursery without the workers coming to get us because he is disturbing the other kids with his screaming. So, naturally, we were worried. We went and visited the classroom and the teachers twice before his first day. Each time, he loved playing, but he kept a very close eye on mom and dad.
Well today was the big day. We got his clothes, shoes and backpack on and started on our way. When we got there, he ran in the building and started banging on the door to get in his classroom. When his teacher opened the door, he ran in, got in a little play car and started driving around the classroom (he didn't even look back at me). So, I went up to him and kissed him. I told him I was leaving and that I would be back later to pick him up. He leaned over, kissed my cheek, waved bye-bye to me and kept driving. As happy as I was that he was happy and having fun, my heart was secretly broken. When I left, I "accidently" took his backpack with me (no, really, it was an accident) and had to go back. When I went back, I looked through the window and he was sitting at the table coloring with the teacher. So I ever so slowly walked back to my car and cried all the way home. Now I sit counting down the seconds until one o'clock when I can go back and pick him up.
I'm pitiful, I know, but this will be a good thing.
